The Democrats have done a wonderful job of making voters understand that their party is the pillar on which Human Rights are supported, while the Republican party is the main force in suppressing Human Rights. To see the truth of this, we have only to look at history.
The first Democrat president, Andrew Jackson, was elected in 1828. The rights of Americans to live on lands occupied by “Indian” tribes were threatened by the presence of those evil redskin savages. President Jackson ordered those savages rounded up and marched to new homes in Oklahoma territory. Google “Trail of Tears” to learn more about this human rights triumph.
As time went on, many people agitated against the right of people to own those sub-humans from Africa as slaves. As the Democrat party defended that right, some of these agitators formed the new Republican party. Besides instigating the bloodiest war in American history, the Republicans confiscated (stole) the property of the southern Democrats without even paying for it as required by the fifth amendment to the Constitution. “…nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.” Under Republicans, the constitution got three amendments that abolishe4d slavery, granted citizenship to ex-slaves, and guaranteed to black Americans the right to vote.
To continue without the sarcasm, the next famous HR violation was the “Battle” (massacre) at Wounded Knee Creek. The cavalry surrounded a village full of squaws, papooses, children, and old men. The attack was ordered, and the “savages” were duly slaughtered. This occurred under a Republican administration, but so far Democrats have not succeeded in finding any proof that the order for the massacre came from President Hayes or the War Department under him in Washington.
In the 1940’s, Democrat President Roosevelt ordered American citizens of Japanese descent rounded up and put in concentration camps. It took a few years before the Supreme Court recognized this violation of the Constitution, but I don’t think the inmates or their heirs ever did get back their “confiscated” (stolen) property.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed into law by Democrat Lyndon Johnson after being passed by Congress by mostly Republican support.
As I said in the beginning, the Democrats have done a wonderful job of making voters understand that their party is the pillar on which Human Rights are supported, while the Republican party is the main force in suppressing Human Rights. Does history seem to support these ideas ?
